upload images with vibrant hues scientists say Researchers from Harvard University and University of Vermont in the US have developed a new algorithm that checks photos on Instagram to diagnose depression and other mental illnesses at an early stage According to the researchers there is a connection between the usage of colour and the mental state of a person They believe that those who post greyer or darker coloured images on Instagram are more likely to be depressed compared to those who upload pictures of vibrant colours The algorithm spots depression in people by identifying the pictures they have uploaded Researchers examined about 170 workers from Amazon’s Mechanical Turk service who had Instagram accounts All participants completed a questionnaire which also included a standard clinical depression survey They were also asked to share pictures from their Instagram account Researchers selected about 100 images from each participant and asked people to rate them on a scale of 0 to 5 based on how interesting sad or happy the photos looked ‘Tech Times’ reported The study also categorised the photos based on saturation hue and the number of faces each picture had Researchers found that decreased saturation and brightness and increased hue predicted depression Researchers also found the depressed and non-depressed people used filters differently Depressed actors are going behind the microphone to record songs Sonu Nigam is unfazed as he feels technology today helps anyone to be a good singer Sonu says there is nothing wrong in actors attempting to sing but the litmus test of a singer is during live shows “Technology has facilitated everyone to be a good singer Read More They (actors) can sing in films there is demand so it is ok But performing live is something else Stage is the true litmus test of a singer” Sonu told PTI The 42-year-old singer began his career by singing in the 1990 movie “Janam” He shot to fame with songs like “Sandese Aate Hai” from “Border” “Ye Dil Deewana” from “Pardes” and released his album “Deewana” According to the “Kal Ho Na Ho” crooner another issue which most singers grapple with is that many music directors have also started doing concerts “We (singers) don’t get royalty the only source of income apart from singing in films is performing in concerts Today even music composers have started doing shows There is nothing wrong in that Even they need to do these things” Apart from “Deewana” which was a massive hit Sonu churned out many more albums like “Chanda Ki Doli” “Jaan” “Yaad” and “Classically Mild” among others The “Abhi Mujhme Kahi” singer’s last album was “The Music Room” in 2014 Sonu feels one must move on with times as the culture of albums has died down with more focus being on singles “Earlier album making was treated as films There were two dance tracks two romantic numbers one sad song It was a completely different fun procedureToday nobody buys albums People download music and we have the age of singles” he said “So all the energy you were putting in all the songs of an album now you have to put it in one single Make sure the song is good the video is perfect and other details Things have changed but you can’t complain about it You have to move on” Sonu added For all the latest Entertainment News download Indian Express App More Related NewsBy: Express News Budget Session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly got off to a stormy start on Friday as Opposition MLAs disrupted Governor Ram Naik’s customary address to the joint sitting of the two Houses Also the old protocol was followed while receiving the Governor at the Assembly Even Naik’s letter to all leaders urging them to remain silent and maintain decorum during his address fell on deaf ears Barring BJP all parties jumped into the well raising slogans of Rajyapal Wapas Jao (Governor go back) Amid the din Naik completed the formality of reading a few lines of his address and left the House On Thursday following opposition by political parties the state government had deferred the implementation of the new guidelines — issued recently by the President’s office — on how to receive the Governor during the joint session As per the new rules the Governor would arrive in a procession amid blowing of trumpets and be received by the chief minister and others at the entrance of the Assembly Following this the CM and others would follow him in a procession to the Assembly The guidelines were issued after Naik took up the matter with the President However the old protocol was followed on Friday and Naik was received by Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey and Pro-tem Chairman of the Legislative Council Om Prakash Sharma on his arrival at the Vidhan Sabha CM Akhilesh Yadav and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan welcomed him in the gallery The Raj Bhavan however issued a press statement mentioning that according to the new protocol the Governor was given a guard of honour As Naik reached the Assembly podium BSP MLAs carrying banners took the lead in jumping into the well They were followed by Congress and RLD members Asked why they did not join the Opposition parties in the protest BJP leader Suresh Khanna later said that it was out of courtesy as the President had sent a letter in this regard “But that does not mean we accept all that has been written in the governor’s address” he added During his address Naik read the first 10 pages of his speech He said the state government has fulfilled all its promises and there is no difference in its words and deed He also highlighted schemes such as 108 102 ambulance service Lucknow-Agra Expressway and Lohia Awas scheme among others In all he spoke for nearly 20 minutes unlike the past when the Governor used to only read the first and last lines of his address if there was a protest by the Opposition Later the Speaker and Pro-tem Chairman of Legislative Council escorted Naik to the lift of the Vidhan Bhavan When the House reassembled at 1230 pm Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya said as the Governor was not able to complete his address there was no point of tabling it However the Speaker turned him down and
