first_img Share LocalNews Defendant asks judge to recuse himself by: Dominica Vibes News – January 12, 2016 Justice Errol ThomasOne man, whose murder trial is expected to begin tomorrow, Wednesday 13 January 2016, has made an application that the sitting judge recuses himself from the trial in fear that he may not receive a free trial.Daniel Bannis made the application when he appeared before Justice Errol Thomas at the High Court of Justice during arraignment at the opening of the 2016 January Session on Tuesday 12 January.Attorney at Law Peter Alleyne told the court that his client informed him that based on alleged statements made by Justice Thomas he does not feel that he will get a fair trial.Alleyne said the alleged statements were made during a bail application before Justice Thomas with his then attorney Dawn Yearwood.Director of Public Prosecutions Evelina Baptiste told the court that Alleyne must inform the court of exactly what statements were allegedly made.Justice Thomas said he has no recollection of making any statements.“I wouldn’t think it’s one statement … but I don’t wish to say anything else in open court,” Alleyne said.Justice Thomas, after listening to the application by Alleyne, said “until the statements can be substantiated I will not grant this application”. 933 Views   one comment Sharing is caring!center_img Tweet Share Sharelast_img
