Photograph shot by Ashton ShillingfordA foreign national with interest in managing the Cabrits Hotel and Spa funded by the Kingdom of Morocco is expected to meet with government this week. Tourism Minister Ian Douglas made the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday 5th June.The 50-room hotel project reportedly costs over $30 million dollars. It is nearing in completion with the major buildings completed and the plastering works ongoing on the inside and outside.Another Moroccan team skilled in electrical, tiling and plumbing work is expected on island shortly.“Another entity has shown interest in actually running the hotel because like we said government is not interested in running the hotel, we are interested in the investment, in the infrastructure”.According to Mr Douglas, the national is expected to arrive here today and will look at the hotel with a view to decide on managing the hotel. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and Youssef Imani at the official ground breaking ceremony on 29th September, 2011Mr Douglas also said over five persons have shown interests in managing the hotel. There are no local operators among those currently awaiting response from government on securing a contract to manage the hotel. A technical team comprising of personnel from the Discover Dominica Authority, Invest Dominica and the Prime Minister’s Office will review these five applications.They “will sit down and evaluate those expressions of interest and see based on the criteria that the government has laid down, which one of those entities best meet and serve the interest of the government in the actual running and operating of the hotel,” Mr Douglas explained.He added that his government is “very happy so far” with the progress and development of the Cabrits Resorts and Spa”.
